1. Introduction

Welcome to Cramberry. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our AI-powered study platform.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

• Account Information: Name, email address, and authentication data when you create an account through Clerk.
• Study Materials: Documents (PDFs, Word, PowerPoint), images, audio recordings, YouTube links, and web URLs you provide to generate study sets including summarized notes, flashcards, quizzes, short answer questions, practice tests, and key terms.
• Audio Recordings (Mobile App): Audio recordings you make in the iOS app for the purpose of generating study materials and transcripts.
• Photos and Images (Mobile App): Photos and images you capture using the camera or select from your photo library within the iOS app to generate study materials.
• Microphone and Speech Input (Mobile App): Microphone audio and speech recognition input used to generate live transcripts within the iOS app.
• Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our platform, including study sessions, quiz attempts, and feature usage.
• Payment Information: For web subscriptions, billing details are processed securely through Stripe. For iOS subscriptions, payments are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase, with RevenueCat managing subscription state on our behalf; we do not receive or store your payment card details for iOS purchases.
• Crash and Diagnostic Data: Crash reports and diagnostic data sent to Sentry to help us identify and fix bugs and stability issues.
• Device Information: Browser type, IP address, and device identifiers for analytics and security purposes.

iOS Permissions: Our iOS app requests the following permissions, which you may grant or deny at any time in your device settings:

• Microphone: To record audio you choose to capture for transcription and study material generation.
• Camera: To capture photos of notes, textbooks, and other study materials you choose to upload.
• Photo Library: To let you select existing photos and images to upload as study materials.
• Speech Recognition: To generate live transcripts from your spoken input within the app.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and improve our AI-powered study tools
• Generate personalized study sets including summarized notes, flashcards, multiple choice quizzes, short answer questions, practice tests, and key terms glossaries
• Extract text from uploaded documents, transcribe audio recordings, and fetch content from YouTube videos and web links
• Power the AI chat feature to answer your study questions about your materials
• Process your subscription payments — web subscriptions through Stripe, and iOS subscriptions through Apple In-App Purchase with RevenueCat managing subscription state
• Track your learning progress within study sets
• Send important service updates and notifications
• Analyze usage patterns to improve our platform
• Ensure the security and integrity of our services

4. Public Study Sets

You may choose to make your study sets publicly visible. When you make a study set public:

• Content Visibility: Your notes, flashcards, and quiz questions will be visible to anyone on the internet, including users who are not logged in.
• Search Engine Indexing: Public study sets may be indexed by search engines (Google, Bing, etc.) to help other students discover educational content.
• Anonymous Attribution: Your username or personal information will NOT be displayed on public study sets. Content is shown anonymously.
• View Tracking: We track the number of views on public study sets for analytics purposes. This data is aggregated and does not identify individual viewers.
• Control: You can make any public study set private again at any time. Note that search engines may retain cached versions temporarily.

We do not sell or share your public content with third parties for commercial purposes. Public content is displayed solely to help other students learn and to improve the educational resources available on our platform.

5. AI Processing

To generate your study materials and power the AI tutor, we send the content you provide — uploaded documents, photos, audio recordings, transcripts, text input, and chat messages with the AI tutor — to third-party AI service providers, currently OpenAI (openai.com) and Cerebras (cerebras.ai). We send only the content needed to produce the requested output (flashcards, notes, quizzes, key terms, short answer questions, practice tests, podcasts, and tutor responses).

Each provider's handling of API data is governed by their own published API data policies, available at openai.com/policies and cerebras.ai. We have selected these providers on the basis that their published policies provide protections substantively comparable to those described in this privacy policy. We do not separately verify or guarantee any provider's internal practices; for the most current details on how each provider handles API data, please consult their published policies directly.

In our iOS app, we ask for your explicit consent during onboarding before any of your content is sent to these providers, and we surface the same disclosure in Profile → AI & Data Processing. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account (Profile → Delete Account), which also removes your stored content from our database. The provider list above may change as we add or remove AI services; we will update this policy and revise the iOS disclosure when it does.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Convex, a real-time database platform with built-in security features. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest. Authentication is handled securely through Clerk.

7. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Clerk: Authentication and user management
• Stripe: Payment processing for web subscriptions
• Apple In-App Purchase: Payment processing for iOS subscriptions
• RevenueCat: Manages iOS subscription state on our behalf
• OpenAI: AI content generation and chat (see Section 5)
• Cerebras: AI content generation and chat (see Section 5)
• Convex: Database and backend services
• Vercel: Hosting and deployment
• Sentry: Crash reporting and diagnostic data to identify and fix bugs
• PostHog: Analytics (anonymized usage data) — web only; PostHog is not used in our mobile app

iOS Subscription Management:iOS subscriptions can be managed and cancelled at any time through your Apple ID account settings on your device. Refunds for iOS purchases are handled directly by Apple and are subject to Apple's refund policies.

We do not sell your personal data and do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your uploaded materials and study sets at any time. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes. In the iOS app, you can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access and download your personal data
• Correct inaccurate information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your study materials
• Opt out of marketing communications

10. Children's Privacy

Cramberry is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
